Three socially innovative groups across the globe have collaborated to provide soil, organic and health programs to remote island communities in the South Pacific. The ability for Organic Matters Foundation, Sea Mercy and The Earth Care Agency to work together has enabled them to consolidate their skill base, knowledge and networks to help assist with local food security programs and economic development for those living remotely. Australians, Americans and Fijians are just a few of the people that are involved.
One aspect is the RISE Program (Remote Island Soil Education) in which I am part of. We call it 'soil school' and use different methods suited to tropical weather, lifestyle and culture to impart technical information. It is a learning curve to fit our knowledge to such a beautiful culture as island life but the people are friendly and welcoming and we have no trouble adapting.
RISE offers volunteer internships for University Under/Post Graduates in the field of agriculture with a passion for organic agriculture and grassroots education.
